A force pack of L&S CFRP cylinders, arranged under the table, permits an internal high pressure deformation of max. 700 bar (10,150 psi) in this combined internal and external high-pressure press from Schnupp Hydraulik GmbH, Bogen.

 

In the development of high performance hydraulic cylinders in ultra-lightweight construction, it has been realized that the conventional principle of building of single pistons is no longer optimal above a certain size, in regard to the component weight and manufacturing costs.

For presses with a maximum force of approximately 1,800 kN a multi-cylinder construction is more favorable. Individual, double acting cylinders are arranged radially around the tie rods. Because of the smaller diameters and thus smaller wall thicknesses these cylinders as a group are lighter than an individual "conventional" CFRP cylinder barrel. Of course the reduction in carbon fibre needed also reduces the cost.
